Sustainability

Our mahogany products are made from mature trees planted by Mataqali (Fijian tribes) some 50 years ago for the purposes of harvest and export. Given Fiji's reliance on key exports such as tourism and water, the expansion of sustainable mahogany products will enable the country to diversify its economy.

Unlike some mahogany exporters, Good Wood Fiji owns mahogany plantations, so has full visibility of its supply chain and all third parties. Therefore, we know where our products are from, down to the specific areas of our plantations. We appropriately remunerate our workers. As a natively-owned operator, we have direct leasing entitlements which ensure longevity in our operation and clear inventory management. Every tree that is harvested from our forests is subject to meeting environmental requirements as part of a government-accredited process. Upon resowing, our trees are maintained for 5 years until they become self-sufficient and mature for future harvests.

Certification

Before export, our Fiji mahogany products are reviewed by the government against specifications in a purchase order. This ensures the products have traceability to the plantation they come from, meet the quality standard on the purchase order, and addresses concerns regarding contamination or illegal logging.

As a nascent producer in the mahogany industry, we're exploring additional options for certification such as the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) and are working with the Fijian government in this matter.

We are a member of the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA).
